William Ward Obituary

Surrounded by family, William K.(Bill)Ward, passed away peacefully on Tuesday August 21st 2018.  He was 84 years old.

William was born in Portage la Prairie, and this was his home until the time of his passing.  William was a hard working man; securing his first job when he was only 13.  He was a farm hand for local farmers until he was hired at the McCallisters Pea and Seed, where he was employed for 35 years.  During this time, he met and married Lorraine (Lilley) and together they raised 5 children.  Jackie, Lorrie(Coco), William G (Bonzo), Rita, and Jason.  William was a gifted story teller, a terrible tease, and a gentle soul.  He loved to read or watch country and western books and movies- Louis L’amour was a favourite Author and John Wayne was his favourite actor.  His family and friends knew not to call him Friday, Sunday or Monday, as he would be watching WWE wrestling, and wouldn’t want to miss anything.  He loved his children and in his retired years, treasured the time he was able to spend with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  This past summer some of his favourite times were spent on the deck with his boys, enjoying the weather and time spent together. He also enjoyed spending time with his brother Pat having coffee sitting along Crescent Lake.

William was predeceased by his parents; His ex-wife and the mother of his children; Lorraine Lilley, his daughters; Jacqueline (Mazurat) and Lorrie (Payne), special friend; Jackie Searle, and his siblings; Rita Ledoux, Jean Baron, Kathleen Lehockey, Patricia Fiddler, Dallas, Alfred, Margaret Ricard, and Thomas.   He is survived by his loving children; William (Bonzo) Ward (Sandra), Rita Murphy (Dave) and Jason and his son-in-laws George Mazurat and Bob Payne.  He also leaves to morn 15 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and 2 great, great grandchildren, siblings; Darlene Mattes(Ken), Patrick (Janet), Caroline Richter (Bert), and Judy Schofield (Otis), Sister in law Connie Ward, Barbra Ward, Shirley Kamotzki(Mike) and brother in law Ben Lilley,  as well as many special nieces, nephews and friends.  The family would like to thank Dr.Finney, Dr. Omichinski (the North End Kid) and nurses and staff on the medical ward for their kind and compassionate care.  As well as all those who came to visit Dad while he was there. No prayers will be held.  The service will be held at the Good Shepard Church on 29 August, 2018 at 1:00 pm with Interment at Hillside Cemetery and lunch at the Good Shepard Church.  In lieu of flowers, donations in William’s memory can be made to Cancer Care Manitoba.
