Obituary

Peacefully, Tuesday afternoon on April 18th, 2023 Dad sat in his big comfy chair to have a nap and prepare for a big night of hockey & baseball games, ready to cheer on his Maple Leafs and his Blue Jays. He fell asleep only to wake up to his Rosie, family and friends on the other side. Dad was 81 years old.

Roger was born in Winnipeg, MB and grew up in Wingham, Oakville and on a farm just south of Portage. Roger was an avid sports person. He was involved in many ball teams, both as a player and a coach. He loved 10 pin and 5 pin bowling, golfing, fishing, and many adventures camping. He was a major Leafs and Blue Jays fan. We don’t ever remember him not having a game on TV.

Roger worked many jobs; from working at Cold Storage and became well known for being a bodyman and painter. He worked for Tecza Murcury for years until he branched out and opened up his own bodyshop RP Autobody. After bodyshop retirement in the early 90’s he stared painting houses and doing minor renos. Then came his 2nd retirement only to start working at Portage Signs & Lettering until his final retirement in 2018.

Dad had a long 4 year battle with cancer and fought hard every day. He’s now at peace with his Rosie. We will miss you and think about you every day… love you Pops!

We would like to thank the girls down at Cancer Care in Portage Hospital for all their kind words and efforts they put in everyday, and to Dr. Finney and Dr. Price for all their time and patience listening to Dad.

He was predeceased by his parents Annie and William Pongoski, his wife Rosie, his brother George, sister Sadie, in-laws Larry, Don, Keith, Noreen, Zena, and Mervin. He leaves to cherish his memory son Kent (Amy), daughter Kyla (Ken), granddaughter Merissa (James), brother Ted, in-laws Joan, Evelyn and Joni, along with many nieces and nephews, along with great nieces and nephews.

In keeping with Roger’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. A Private Family burial will take place at a later date.

If friends so desire, donations in Roger’s memory can be made to Central Plains Cancer Care, 318 E Saskatchewan Ave, Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 0K8. To share your memories of Roger, or to leave condolences for the family, please visit www.ronaldmoffitmemorialservices.com
