Graveside Service Announcement
There will be a Graveside Service at Hillside Cemetery, Monday, June 17th, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. Robert’s late son Jonathan Payne, will also be laid to rest in the family plot.
All are welcome to attend. A reception will follow the interment.
After a lengthy illness with diabetes and a short battle with cancer, Bob passed away on Friday, December 29th, 2023 at the Portage General Hospital with family by his side.
Bob was born on the 11 of February, 1957, oldest son of the late Robert Sr. and the late Patricia (Dyer) Payne. Predeceased by his wife Lorrie Payne, father Robert Sr., mother Patricia, brother David, mother-in-law Lorraine Ward, father-in-law William (Bill) Ward, sister-in-law Jacqueline Mazurat. Bob leaves to mourn his sons, Jonathan Payne and Kevin Mancheese Payne, his sister Bev (Butch and daughter Brooke) from Angus, ON, Aunt Dot Butler from Angus, ON, Uncle Ken and Aunt Kathy Payne, from Angus, ON, Uncle Lyndy and Aunt Wendy Payne, from Angus, ON, cousin Karen Butler, from Angus, ON, brother in law George(Roxy) Mazurat of Portage la Prairie, MB, Gerald (Bonzo) (Sandra) Ward of Portage la Prairie, MB, sister in law Rita (David) Murphy of Winnipeg, MB, and brother in law Jason Ward of Portage la Prairie, MB. He will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
Bob was a veteran of the Canadian Air Force, while station in Portage la Prairie, MB, where he met and married Lorrie Ward in 1984. Bob also did two tours overseas with the Canadian Air Forces. In Bob’s younger years he enjoyed playing men’s fast ball, where he was a remarkable pitcher. He also enjoyed broom ball, playing cards, bingo and watching his favorite teams Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto Maple Leafs.
Bob’s fight is now over and he is now pain free. Rest easy now Bob, you were truly one of a kind!
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life was held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 12th, 2024 at the Army Navy and Air Force Veterans Hall, 25 3rd St. N.E., Portage la Prairie, MB.
