With heavy hearts we are sad to announce the passing of our Dad Reed Winston Briggs, 82, of Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. He passed away peacefully on June 16, 2026, at 10:34PM, at the Portage General Hospital.
Born on August 9, 1943, in Woodstock (South Newbridge), Carleton County, New Brunswick, Reed was raised on the family potato farm in North View, Victoria County New Brunswick. His love for aviation began early; he participated in the Air Cadets and earned his pilot's license at the age of 17.
On May 2, 1964, Reed married Linda Sullivan in Plaster Rock, New Brunswick. The couple moved to Portage la Prairie in 1966, where Reed launched his professional flying career at the local airport. They later relocated to Winnipeg, where he served as a dedicated flight instructor and owner of Point West/Winnipeg Aviation, and Central Canada Helicopters.
In 1977, Reed and Linda built a farm near Edwin, Manitoba, allowing him to pursue his dual passions of potato farming and aviation. For many years, he flew commercially for Perimeter Airlines and Cambell Air. Reed was a man of diverse interests who loved flying, farming, and fishing, and he always embraced new challenges with enthusiasm.
He is lovingly survived by his wife, Linda; his sons, Bob, Tim (Patricia), and daughter Tammy; and his grandchildren, Christopher, Aleesha, Ty, Brady (Baillie), Valerie, Cody, and Jamie, as well as many great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his brother-in-law, Lang Snow, his sister-in-law, Lynn Briggs, and his sister, Shirley Radley, and many nieces and nephews.
Reed was predeceased by his parents, Murchie Briggs and Faye Lavinia (Elliott) Briggs; his Stepmother, Elsie Briggs, his sister, Darlene Snow, and his brother Allison (Sibyle) Briggs.
He will be deeply loved and missed by all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date with details to be announced closer to the date.
Arrangements entrusted to Ronald Moffit Memorial Services of Portage la Prairie, MB.
