Murray Gordon Tufford January 27 1930 - May 20 2020 It is with great sadness that we announce that Murray Gordon Tufford passed away peacefully at his home on May 20,2020. Murray was born and raised in the Portage area and attended school there. He met and ultimately married Gwendolyn Anne “ Gwen “ Brydges on August 6 1952 in Portage la Prairie. Murray and Gwen farmed in the Portage area for a couple of years before being blessed with 2 children, Timothy Neil and Arden Gail. The family continued farming in the Portage area before moving on to Carberry and eventually To the Oak Point area where they raised Polled Herefords. Murray decided on a career change and attended Red River College where he got his Power Engineer Certification. He gained employment with Simplot in Brandon and then made a big move To the Nevis Gas Plant in Alberta where he worked for several years as well as farmed in the area. In the 80’s he and Gwen moved back to High Bluff where they built a beautiful home. He continued working at the Portage Arena for several years before retiring. His passion for growing things and building things with his hands kept him very busy in his retirement years. Murray’s talent for woodworking was the envy of many people. He also always enjoyed and encouraged a lively political discussion with family or his many friends. Sadly in 2008, Gwen, his loving wife of 56 years passed away. In 2010 Murray remarried with Grace Denslow (Tufford) and they eventually moved into Portage where they spent 10 great years together, doing a bit of travelling and making trips to the casino’s that they both enjoyed. Grace was at his side right up to the time of his passing.
