Marlene Towle Obituary

On Wednesday, March 4th, 2026, at The Lions Prairie Manor, with her husband by her side, Marlene at the age of 83, peacefully joined her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Marlene (Mary Marlene Cecil), was born in her family home, delivered by her father, on July 6th, 1942 in Barrows, MB to parents Charles and Mary (nee Campbell), Danielson. Marlene was the last surviving of her 11 siblings.

At a young age, Marlene and her family moved to Mafeking, MB and later, in 1959, to Cranberry Portage, MB. Here, she met Arnold Towle and they married on March 18, 1961. After brief stays in Thicket Portage, MB and Dunblane, SK, Marlene and Arnold made the move to Atikokan in 1962, where Arnold’s job with the CN, brought them.  Here they raised their 4 sons.

In her early years, Marlene worked as a waitress at Stan’s Sportsmans Restaurant, and Torbiak’s (The Old A). She also worked supporting seniors in care, often cooking meals and cleaning.

After moving from Atikokan, ON to Portage la Prairie, MB Marlene enjoyed volunteering at the MCC, quilting, and unravelling yarn to make new items.

Marlene had a strong faith in Jesus, and rested in His eternal hope for her future. Her faith sustained her through her battle with mouth cancer and the many procedures she endured. By her side, for the many medical trips to Winnipeg, was her niece, Linda Green. Marlene was thankful to Linda for explaining what the doctor told her.

Marlene was pre-deceased by her parents, and her 11 siblings: Ray, Dora, Rita, Dick, Cecile, Mary, Susie, Chuck, Edward, Adolf, and Roy.

Marlene was a passionate knitter, and enjoyed crocheting and sewing as well.  Gardening and bird- watching, would fill her days with much joy. She filled many jars with the abundance of produce from her garden. Rhubarb pies and beets were the family’s favourite. She was an excellent cook, and passed on many recipes to her daughter’s-in-law.

Marlene and Arnold enjoyed card nights with their neighbours, Charlie and Joanne.

Marlene, along with her husband Arnold, attended Crescent Heights Chapel where she served the Lord in many ministries.

Mom will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her.

The family of Marlene would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff of Lions Prairie Manor, for their attentiveness, kindness and great care during the few years she spent there.

Marlene, leaves behind her husband Arnold; sons David (Cindy), Ronald, Perry (Tracey), and Ian as well as grandsons, Christopher, Bradley, Matthew, Adam, Curtis, Scott and granddaughter Tiler. Also, 6 great-grandchildren.
