Marie (Marlene) (Klassen) Neufeld

After a long, hard fought battle Mom “Went Home” to be with God on Christmas morning.

She was born to Bernhardt and Maria Klassen of Stonewall, Manitoba, the youngest of six children.  She was raised on the farm.  She attended normal school and began teaching at an early age, boarding with rural families as she moved around Manitoba.

She moved with her boys to Portage in 1970 where she made her home and remained until her passing.

She is the very proud mother of three sons: Ken (Dianna), Dale (Debbie), and Bruce.  Her family grew rapidly with the addition of 8 grandchildren and their partners as well as 3 great-grandchildren who she adored.

Mum spent her life learning, educating, and travelling around the world;  most notably a six month missionary trip to Africa after her retirement. Her faith and relationship with the Lord was also a huge part of her life.  She was actively involved for many years with the Portage Mennonite Church.  Her fellow parishioners were a second family.  She also enjoyed a game of golf with the girls until her illness made it no longer possible.

She was predeceased by her parents and four siblings; Tine, Abe, Henry and John. She leaves one brother Ben (Linda) and family along with a large extended family, as well as many lifelong friends who assisted her in her journey and she was most thankful for them all.

You are invited to join us as we celebrate her life on Friday, January 3 at 2:00 p.m. in the Crocus Room at the Herman Prior Center in Portage la Prairie.

Cremation has taken place and a private family interment will be in the spring at Prospect Cemetery as per her wishes.
