Louise Savoie Obituary

Louise Rita Savoie, 69, passed away on Tuesday April 28, 2026 at Brandon Regional Health Centre following a sudden and unexpected illness. Louise passed peacefully, surrounded by those who loved her.

She is predeceased by her parents Ena and Magloire (Mac) Savoie and sister Renee Savoie.

Louise will be lovingly remembered by her husband of nearly 40 years, Gary; her daughters, Alina (Tim) and Lara; her cherished grandchildren, Hanna, Kaitlin, Ben, Lyla, and Pete; and her great-granddaughter, Gianna. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Phil Bilodeau and nephew Adam Bilodeau, as well as many special and close friends and her beloved dog Buddy.

Louise was born on February 24, 1957, in New Westminster, BC, and was raised in Coquitlam, BC with her parents, Ena and Magloire. Eight years later, in 1965, her younger sister Renée joined the family. Louise grew up in a French-speaking household, speaking primarily French at home and at school. She attended Our Lady of Fatima School and later Centennial High School, graduating in 1975.

Immediately after graduating, Louise packed up and moved to Portage la Prairie to pursue a job opportunity at the Manitoba Developmental Centre. She trained as a Psychiatric Nurse, graduating in 1980, and dedicated her career to the MDC until her retirement in 2012 at the age of 55. Louise truly enjoyed her years of service and the many areas within the MDC where she worked, forming lifelong friendships along the way. Wherever she was, residents benefited from her kind, caring, compassionate, and knowledgeable nature

Louise was a loving mother to her twin daughters, whom she loved deeply. She was a proud “Mémé” to her five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, all of whom she adored. She took great joy in spoiling them and never missed sending a card for every birthday and holiday, even Halloween.

Louise had an adventurous spirit and a love for the outdoors. She often spoke fondly of camping trips with close friends to Galiano Island, BC—sometimes even hitchhiking to get there and back. This past spring, she had the opportunity to reconnect with her childhood friends for one last trip to Galiano Island.

She cherished her time at TJ’s, Lynch’s Point, and lastly her second home at Big Point, where she enjoyed sitting by the lake or around a campfire. She also enjoyed time spent at the legion, going to the meat draw and sharing drinks with friends. She loved to travel, and as a family we would take yearly trips together - Florida and the Black Hills were some of our favourites. In 2019, she made a memorable road trip from Manitoba to Prince Edward Island with her sister Renée—an adventure filled with lasting memories. Louise enjoyed hosting holiday gatherings with family and friends especially, on Christmas Eve. She had a love for flowers and gardening, and in her retirement she embraced crafting, rock painting, collecting crystals, and exploring Manitoba on many day trips.

Louise was a wonderful and loving mother, wife, “mémé”, and friend. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her honour to the Canadian Red Cross or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honour her memory.
