Louise Jeffries Obituary

Peacefully at home, with loved ones by her side, Louise Jeffries (nee Tilley) was carried by angels into the presence of her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at 5:40 pm.  She was loved and will be greatly missed by her husband of 57 years, Albert, her children, Nancy (Andrew) Patten, Heather, and David (Katie), as well as four grandchildren, Michael, Daniel (Jessica), and Carissa Patten and Mitchell Jeffries, two sisters, Carlene (Raymond) Walmsley, and Joy (Dennis) Walker, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Louise was born in Portage la Prairie, on December 30, 1943 to Norman and Mary Tilley who farmed in the Pine Creek district.  When she was nine years old, Louise accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour, and lived to prove it.  She attended a country school, graduated from Portage Collegiate Institute and went on to Teacher’s College.  Louise taught Grade One at Fort la Reine School in Portage for four years, and on November 13, 1964 married her highschool sweetheart, Albert Jeffries.

For 45 years they partnered with Albert’s brother, David, farming as Jeffries Brothers Vegetable Growers until Albert’s retirement in 2008.    Louise played a supporting role on the farm in the office doing the book-keeping, as well as innumerable other tasks.  One aspect of their farming operation involved bringing in off-shore workers from Mexico, many of whom Louise and Albert developed special relationships with.

Over the years, Louise and Albert were actively involved in spreading the good news of salvation.  They travelled extensively through Latin America, supporting local missionaries, visiting some of the Mexican farm workers, and “sowing the seed” as they went.  Albert was the love of her life, her best friend, and faithful companion and caregiver during her last days.  They travelled, “Cracker Barrelled”, cruised, and cabined together, building innumerable happy memories together.

Louise excelled at home-making, loved scrapbooking, and expressed her love to family and friends through homemade baking, embroidered tea towels, flowers from her garden, and notes of encouragement.  Many of you will have been touched by her kindness and generosity.  She will be missed, but those of us who also belong to Christ will one day be re-united with her in heaven, and that brings great comfort.
