Lloyd Shepherd Obituary

Lloyd George Shepherd passed away November 3rd, 2021, at the Portage District General Hospital.

He was predeceased by his wife Esther (2017), son Dana (1993), son Kerry (2021), and son in-law Dennis Prince (2012). Lloyd is survived by his son David (Tammy) Shepherd, daughter Brenda Prince, and daughter Cathy (Ivan) Levandosky. He is also survived by grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He still has siblings and their families living in Ontario.

Lloyd was born March 26th, 1936, to Joseph Gordon Shepherd and Jessie (nee Fredrick) in Mount Salem, Ontario. He married Esther (nee Hill) in 1956. They had 5 children and resided in St. Thomas Ontario. Lloyd and his father worked together in a paving company called Shepherd and Son. Then in 1977, the family moved to the Portage la Prairie area of Manitoba.

After moving to the Portage area, he then worked many years at McCains as an Industrial Maintenance Mechanic. He enjoyed flying and had an airplane and pilot’s license for some time. He enjoyed reading and embraced the computer age.

The family went to meetings at the Portage la Prairie Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He enjoyed working there to maintain different things.

When his wife Esther became sick, he decided to keep her at home and became a caregiver. The family was and still are grateful that he did that. She died in 2017. Even then, he was still a busy person. Occasional family visits, along with visits from congregation friends helped him not to be too lonely. At this time, he decided to help some people in the community with transportation needs.

He became quite ill during the pandemic, this involved lengthy stays in the hospital. The family wishes to thank the Portage Hospital for all their care. Thanks to all who were able to visit, phone or support him in other ways.

Lloyd believed the Bible’s promise of a time there would be no more death and there would be life on a paradise earth. His faith helped him remain positive.

The family chooses to have a Private Gathering and Interment at a later date.
