Leoan Georgina Florell

Leoan Florell passed away on December 27, 2018 at the Lions Prairie Manor in Portage La Prairie, MB, at the age of 87.

Leoan Georgina Smale was born on July 9, 1931 in Wadena, SK.  During the Great Depression, her family left the farm and moved to Flin Flon, MB. 
As a young woman, Leoan travelled and worked in various cities in Western Canada, eventually moving to Prince George, BC. In Prince George she would be reunited with a first-grade classmate from Wadena: Ole Florell. Ole and Leoan were married on January 29, 1955.  Their first son, Colin Trent, was born in September of that year. The couple moved on to Flin Flon, where their other four children were born. Leoan moved with her family several times during her husband’s career in the boilermaker trade. She and her husband spent their final retirement years together in Estevan, SK.   

Following her husband’s passing in the fall of 2014, Leoan returned to Portage La Prairie to reside at the Lions Prairie Manor.  During her time at the Manor, Leoan cherished visits and updates from family, Tim Horton’s coffee, Winnipeg Jets hockey games, and meals at Lita’s Station.  A special thank you to Leoan’s “daughters” at the Lions Prairie Manor for lovingly caring for her. Her family is forever grateful.  

Leoan was predeceased by two sons: Colin Florell and Dr. Randall Florell, and her husband, Ole. She is survived by two daughters: Lovannda (Donald) Hargest of Martensville, SK, and Amber (Walter) Driedger of Oakville, MB, her son, Greg (Julia) Florell of Coronach, SK, eleven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren

A family memorial service will be held this summer at Hillside Cemetery in Portage La Prairie.
