Joan Ward Obituary

Our small but mighty warrior, Joan Ward, mother of Terry, Dale, and Dennis, and widow of the late Torry Ward, passed away from this world into the glorious light.

Joan was born December 29th, 1931 to Lucy (Dobbs) and Robert Garrioch in Portage la Prairie, MB. She passed away February 25th, 2022 at the age of 90 at the Portage and District General Hospital. She was sister to Jack (Gertie), Barbara (Ralph) Garton, Gavin (Kaye), Laura (Dave) Fox, Gerry, Judy (Bryan) Finnigan, and Laura, all gone before her.

Mom was never one to brag about herself, but we want her to be remembered as a beautiful, hardworking, fun with a great sense of humor gal who was so much more than she ever gave herself credit. She played piano, guitar, sang harmony with the family everywhere from Pig and Whistle nights to church and all places in between. She worked at McDonald’s Sporting Goods, the Corner Store, Hill’s West Drug Store, Gabel’s Jewelers, as a teacher’s aide at Crescentview School, and sold Fashion Two Twenty in the evenings for many years. She preferred being in the background, and after her salvation in the 1980’s, put Jesus first in her life at every opportunity. She read the Bible at the Manor for 25 years each Sunday until she was no longer able, and was a prayer partner to many.

She leaves behind few but carefully chosen friends.

She is survived by her daughter Terry and her husband Bob Neufeld (Tyson and Heather and their children Tim, Tony, and Sam; Jennifer Young, children Reece, Dawson and Tristen; Dale, son Lyall and children Synaire and Jessamae); and son Dennis (Debbie)and children Tyler (Steph and son Kohen) and Corrie (Mike and daughter Brynlee). Also survived by brother Cal (Joanne) and sister in-law Edie, brother in-law Russell, and many nieces and nephews who will miss her immensely.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Hunter for his compassionate understanding and guidance during this trying time.

A private family interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery at a future date. To share condolences with Joan’s family, please visit our website at www.ronaldmoffitmemorialservices.com
