Hilda Marion Caldwell

On Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at the Portage General Hospital, Hilda Caldwell, widow of the late Jack Caldwell, passed away at the age of 93 years.

Hilda was born in Chaddersley Corbett, England where she grew up and received her education.

At age 14 she left school and began her working career, first in a bakery and then during the Second World War she worked in a hospital. Following the war she worked for Cadbury Schweppes in advertising and public relations.  In 1973 she married Jack Caldwell and in 1973 they moved to Canada.  Always active and involved, Hilda worked as a building superintendent in a high rise apartment and later as a statistical clerk for the Hudson’s Bay Company in Winnipeg.

Her community participation was as a member of the MacGregor Hospital Auxiliary, Chairperson of the Auxiliary of Grafton House in MacGregor and a very active member of ST. Paul’s Anglican Church.  Her hobbies included knitting, cooking and baking, gardening and travel.

Left to mourn her passing is her one son Grenville (Maureen) , 3 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren .A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in St, Mary’s Anglican Church, Portage la Prairie with a reception to follow.
