Harvey Malcolm Kane

Harvey Malcolm Kane August 23, 1926 - October 21, 2017 Harvey Kane passed away peacefully at the Portage General Hospital at the age of 91 after a brief illness.

Harvey was born in Carberry, MB to Gordon and Effie (McMillan) Kane. Harvey was one of four children. His sister Clarice married William Pilkington, their children are Gordon, Lynn, Connie and Wilfred. Jean married Henry Frank, their children are Wayne, Wilfred and Sheldon. Harvey's twin sister Eileen married Glen Hughson, their children are Barbara and Glenda. Harvey was the last surviving member of the family.

 Harvey's dad was remarried after his mother passed away to Ella Garrioch.  There were two step sisters for Harvey through this marriage. Louise married Don McCulloch, their children are, Debbie and Allan Karen married Murray Makinson, their children are Stacy and Angela. Harvey married Edna Floate in 1946. They had two children, Kenneth and Carol.

Harvey farmed in the Rossendale area for the first years of his married life. In 1956 he sold the farm that they lived on, and moved the family to B.C, where he worked on a dairy farm and did carpentry work. After a couple of years the prairies called him back and the family moved to Rossendale where Harvey farmed part time. Then they moved into Macgregor. He worked on the railroad for a time and then with the highways department until he took early retirement at the age of 63. Harvey enjoyed gardening and following the harness racing circuit. Harvey loved to dance and was a very good dancer.

Harvey is survived by his wife Edna, son Kenneth (Jean) Minnedosa,  grandchildren, Dale(Carrie) Kane, great - grandchildren Kate and Will, Minnedosa. Denise (Tyler) Rush, Nelson, BC. great-grandchildren Johnny (Brittany) Brandon MB, Courtney (Matt) great -great-granddaughter Abbey, Ottawa, ON. Alissa , Toronto, ON, and Skyler , Nelson, BC. daughter, Carol (Grant) Ryan, Portage, grandchildren, Kyle (Charlene) Brandon, great grandchildren, Layne and Kacey, and extended step great grandchildren. Crystal ( Josh) Bruinooge, Portage. Great- grandchildren Jordyn and Lauren.  Keith (Loretta), great grandchildren Jackson and Connor of  Saskatoon, Sk. . Tracey (Roger) Farr, great - grandchildren , Laurina And David.also of Saskatoon, Sk.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, October 27, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Herman Prior Cenre, 40 Royal Road N., Portage la Prairie  with a reception to follow.  Interment will be in the Rossendale Cemetery at a later date.
