Gerald Joseph Boehm

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our father, grandfather and great grandfather Gerald Joseph Boehm, age 88 years on December 28, 2019 at the Portage General Hospital, after a brief illness.

He is survived by his wife Janice Preston-Boehm. He is also survived by his first wife, Effie, and their three sons, John Robert, Andrew Karl and Richard James Boehm.  Also left to mourn him are his grandchildren Andrea, Derek and Alana, his great grandchildren Audrey and Beau plus several nieces and nephews, many friends and his extended family through his current wife, Janice.

Born on November 10, 1931 Gerald was raised on his family’s farm near Muenster, Saskatchewan.  As a young man, he ventured east to work for Falconbridge Nickel Company at Sudbury, Ontario. He then enlisted with the Royal Canadian Airforce.  While stationed here at CFB Southport he met and married his first wife, Effie, in 1958.  With her, he had his three sons.  After his military service, he continued his chosen career as a licenced mechanic.  Then served many years as service manager here at the Smith Motors Ford Dealership.  Before his full retirement, he also worked at McCain’s Foods, drove taxi and volunteered for C.O.P. and sport’s event shuttle driving. Dad was particularly proud of his many years as an in-car instructor for Portage’s High School driver education program.

Gerry’s life was like most of our…filled with joys and sadness, successes and failures, mistakes and redemptions, toil and rest. Now comes the final rest. Somewhere he’s  again, a bare-footed farm boy running with his friends under a bright blue endless Saskatchewan summer sky, a warm prairie wind at their backs.

If friends so desire, memorial donations in memory of Gerald may be made to the charity of choice.

Cremation has taken place. A private family service to be held at a later date.
