Earl James Porter

On Thursday, September 26, 2019, Earl Porter passed away peacefully at the age of 69, with his family by his side.

Earl was born April 20, 1950 in Portage La Prairie. Earl moved away to British Columbia when he was stationed as an RCMP officer at Vancouver Town Station as a constable and shortly thereafter at Vancouver Drug squad and finally in Prince George. He returned back to Portage where he met his wife, Terrie, and was a proud father of his two children Mathew and Cole. When returning to Portage he worked for O Cairns Realty, and then opened his own business, the “shine shop” which eventually became “Porter Auto Sales”. Earl was proud to serve the citizens of Portage La Prairie first as counselor of twelve years then as Mayor. 

Earl was preceded in death by both parents, James and May Porter, as well as his sister Elaine Rutherford. He is survived by his wife, Terrie, his two children, Mathew and Cole (Jay), his grandchildren, Brooke and Chase Bartling, brother-in-law Rusty, several cousins, in-laws, nieces and nephews, and close friends. A celebration of life will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 15 at the Herman Prior Centre, 40 Royal Road North, Portage la Prairie, MB.
