Peacefully with her family by her side, Dorothy Louise White (nee Voss) passed away on January 3rd, 2020 at the Lion’s Prairie Manor.
Dorothy “Dot” was the beloved wife of Jim White (who predeceased her in July of 2015) and loving Mother to Greg and Glen (Sonia), and Grandmother to Andrew and Derek (Alexis) White.
Dorothy was born to the late Robert and Annie Voss in 1930 and grew up in the Edwin area. She met and then married the love of her life Jim in 1950. They lived in Portage until 1970 when they followed their dream and moved to the Gainsborough area, taking them back to their country roots.
Dot loved animals and the outdoors, riding her horse Kalif, walking her dogs, playing cards, yard work, but mostly loved to care for her family. She always put others’ needs ahead of hers.
Dot was also very active in the association for the mentally challenged, where she served on the board for many years as recreation director and then president.
Dorothy was immensely proud of her family and leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories and her love that will last in our hearts forever.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family interment will take place at a later date.
If friends so desire, donations in memory of Dorothy can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 2-218 Saskatchewan Ave. E. Portage La Prairie MB, R1N 0K9, or the Portage Association for Community Living, 1675 Saskatchewan Ave. W. Portage La Prairie, MB, R1N 0R4.
