Artist, naturalist and outdoorsman, Don McMaster has died peacefully. He was 92.
Following Don’s thirty-year teaching career in River East School Division, he and Ardythe moved to their new home, Prairie Bluff, overlooking the Assiniboine Valley north of Treherne. There, over the next 27 happy years, they helped build the Bittersweet Ski Club, while Don pursued his passion for painting. His art was inspired by the Canadian landscape in all its changing light and seasons, including the grasslands of their prairie home and the rocks and water of their cottage in Northwestern Ontario. Don was a lifelong fan of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. In 2022, Don and Ardythe moved to Dufferin Villa in Portage la Prairie.
Don and Ardythe have two children, Glen (Lynn) and Laura (Jason Playter). There are 5 grandchildren. Don’s sister, Jean Czaja (Ed), lives in Calgary.
In respect of his wishes, there will be no funeral. Family and friends will be invited to celebrate Don’s life at a later date.
Donations in Don’s memory may be made to The Nature Conservancy of Canada, 611 Corydon Avenue, Suite 200 Winnipeg, MB R3L 0P3 or to Bittersweet Ski Club c/o Box 40 Rossendale, MB R0H 1C0 or bittersweetskiclubmb@gmail.com
