Daryl Giffin Obituary

With great sadness we announce the passing of Daryl Foss Giffin on December 17, 2020 at Portage District General Hospital at the age of 81.  He will lovingly be remembered by his best friend and wife of 50 years, Marilyn, daughter Ronalee (John) Reynolds, granddaughter Victoria Newham and grandson Cameron Newham; estranged son Chad Giffin: Nieces Trish (Dave) McLeod, Heather (Rick) Shiels and families; brother Kelly (Eleanor) Giffin and Leslie Giffin, Mitch (Cheryl) Giffin, Mike (Ally) Giffin and Todd (Karen) Giffin and families. He was predeceased by his parents Foss and Edith (Hill) Giffin, Uncles George Hill and Frank (Sadye) Hill; nephew Scott Giffin and in-laws Allan and Helen McLeod and Bruce and Wanda McLeod.

He was born June 26, 1939 and grew up in Manitou and Portage la Prairie. He was co-owner of Mayfair Glassware and the artist for Seetusee glassware.  When the business closed in 1986, he went to work for the Heal family at BCP and continued working when Avena Foods bought the business.  He enjoyed his time there so much that he didn’t retire until December 2019 at age 80.  He liked his employers and fellow employees and they were good to him.  He missed everyone at the mill but because of covid was not able to visit with them.

In his younger days, he played drums with various groups Including Ernie Ryngash and Brookers.  He was a member of the Kam Pushers car club, and enjoyed model railroading.  We loved to travel – especially in the Caribbean spending 2 weeks at every island we went to; Jamaica – 4 visits including one over New Years – 4 cruises he loved the cruise to Alaska that we went on with my cousins – trips to Las Vegas to spend time with best friends Jim and Marlon Krukowski, and trips to Mexico and US – he really enjoyed the trip to New York to see the Yankees play in the old Yankee Stadium. We went to 2 games with 1st base seats, and we saw Mariano Rivera pitch. He was a Bomber fan and we had season tickets since 1995.  He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and had served on the Executive.

At Daryl’s request there will be no service.  Cremation has taken pace.

As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made MS Society in Portage or PAWS 121 12th St NE, Portage R1N 4A2.
