Cliff passed away peacefully at the age of 87, with his family by his side, following a brief stay at Portage General Hospital.
He was predeceased by his wife Betty; his parents, Guðrún and Eylofur Thorsteinson; and his brothers, John Thordarson and Dennis Thorsteinson.
Cliff grew up in Westbourne, Manitoba. From a young age, he had a strong sense of adventure — hitchhiking to the West Coast at just 18 years old and later taking memorable road trips throughout Mexico and the United States.
In 1956, Cliff began his career with Manitoba Hydro as a lineman. He worked in Portage and the surrounding area for 37 dedicated years. In 1968, Cliff married Betty Hillman of Gladstone, Manitoba. They began their married life together in Gladstone, later relocating to Oakville, and eventually settling in Westbourne, where they built their home and life together.
After retiring in 1993, he worked alongside Betty at the Westbourne Post Office until her passing in 2007.
Cliff remained in Westbourne until 2012, keeping busy restoring and tinkering with his old tractors in his shop and proudly embracing his role as the very best grandpa. He also enjoyed escaping the winter months to Mesa, Arizona, where he spent cherished time with his brother Tom and formed many dear friendships.
Cliff will be greatly missed by his daughter Ronna (Craig) Hilsendager; grandson Dane (Taelor) granddaughter Kyra (Carter) and their son Hudson; and his son Chris (Sonya) Thorsteinson and their children Ryder, Jett, and Presley, along with many extended family members and friends.
In lieu of flowers, please smile, be kind, and remember the quiet impact you can make — just as Cliff did.
As per Cliff’s wishes, a Private Family Interment will take place at a later date.
Arrangements entrusted to Ronald Moffit Memorial Services of Portage la Prairie, MB.
