Bernice Elaine Delbridge (Leonhardt) passed away suddenly in her home at the age of 72 years. She is survived by her husband Frank, daughter Denise Belinski (Dave), grandchildren Megan and Matthew Belinski, Jessica and Bailey Delbridge, and great-granddaughter Abby Delbridge. Bernice will also be greatly missed by her extended family: Joan Gray (Ron), Karen Steiner (Donnie), Linda Picard (Norm), Fay Lanyon, Bill Zeck, Dawn Larkin (Dale), as well as several cousins. Predeceased by her loving son Richard and “brothers” Clayton Delbridge and Rick Hextall, special aunts Dorothy Morden and Eleanor Christie, and uncle Arnold Leonhardt.
Mom grew up and lived in Poplar Point all her life. Spending close to forty years teaching brought out her love of children, crafts, holiday decorating, and continuous community work. Mom and Dad were always together. Growing up on neighbouring farms, they were married August 16, 1969. Then followed a hectic life of raising R.J. and I, working at our cafe, volunteering for various rink, hall, and church activities, and earning her education degree while teaching full time. Mom was able to accomplish this, all the while coping with the challenges of having bipolar disorder.
Mom looked forward to our weeks at St. Ambroise, listening to the waves while she slept, enjoying campfire songs, sun tanning, and watching R.J and I play in the water for hours. If she didn’t have to go home to tend her prized roses and do garden work, she would have stayed all summer. Colder months were filled with snowmobiling, curling, and watching first us, then our children, in winter sports. Lately her days were filled with two of her greatest loves – Christmas and her granddaughter Abby.
As were Mom’s wishes, no formal funeral will be held at this time. Interment will be held in the spring.
