Anna "Mae" Hanna Obituary

In the early morning hours of Friday, June 12th, Anna Mae Hanna left this world for her eternal home; her pain and suffering were over.

Mom was born in Drumheller, AB, on August 21st, 1933, to Ernest and Elizabeth Bruhjell, a little sister for her brother Donn. Not long afterward, her parents divorced, and Mom and her brother Donn went to live with different family members. Our Mom didn’t like to talk about her growing-up years, so not much is known about this time.

Mom knew from the time she was a little girl that she would be a nurse, and she fulfilled that dream, graduating with a degree in psychiatry as part of the RN class of 1956 in Brandon, Manitoba. Mom was attending the Brandon Gospel Hall, and she spoke of the biggest decision she made in her life: on July 8th, 1954, she accepted the Lord Jesus Christ, and the peace she received that day carried her throughout her life.

She met a fellow student, Daisy Hanna, who introduced her to her brother, Glen Hanna; he was smitten. On August 12th, 1957, Mom and Dad were married, and to this union were born Brian in 1958, Karen in 1959, Brent in 1963, and Blair in 1966. Mom loved us fiercely, and her family was her world. Mom was an amazing seamstress, sewing almost all of our clothes growing up, which carried on down to the grandbabies; all of us were blessed by the beautiful outfits she created for our children. Mom’s cooking, baking, and canning were enjoyed not just by her family, but by many a traveling preacher and the endless company they entertained.

Time marched by in a blink, and six years ago she was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and given a very short time to live, but our great Physician had different plans for our little Mama. “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.” See you in the morning, Mom.

Mom is survived by her loving husband, Glen, of nearly 69 years. Son Brian (Carolyn): Kaela (Brody), Peyton, Huxley; Krystal (Dane), Ashton, Kaden; Karissa; Kaitlyn (Brayden), Kessler, Kassidy; Korynn (Collin), Matthew, Jack. Daughter Karen: Monica; Alexia (William), Curtis, Davi; Alisha. Brian (Melissa): Dylan, Nathan. Anna (Luc): Andrew (Veronica), Spencer; Colby (Megan), Macie Mae, Memphis. Son Brent: Beth (David), Megan (Doug), Kai and Emma; Rob (Kiera); Rory. Son Blair (Val): Gentry (Hailey), Wells; Amy; Heidi (Colton).

Mom was predeceased by her brother, Donn Bruhjell; sister-in-law, Helen; nephews Rick and Randy Bruhjell; great-nephew Brant Holenstein; and great-nephew Trent Bruhjell.

We would like to thank Homecare for their excellent and loving care of our Mom in the last two years; some became very dear to her heart. We would also like to thank the palliative care staff at the hospital for Mom’s care in her last four weeks.

The Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, June 26th, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at the Faith Fellowship Baptist Church, 4 Willowdale Crescent, Brandon MB. Refreshments and a time of fellowship will follow.
