Sadie Marie Lepla

Sadie Lepla, born March 27th, 1941, passed away January 5th, 2020 at the Portage District General Hospital at 8:24 pm at the age of 78 surrounded by her family. Born and raised in Portage la Prairie, Sadie spent much of her time at the Portage Hotel as a bartender, waitress, and patron where she quickly developed a reputation for being feisty and never backing down from anyone. It was during her time here that she would meet Gaston Lepla, to whom she would later be married. When she wasn’t working, Saidie was in the kitchen honing her skills where she would become well-known for her perogies, cabbage rolls, and baking. It brought her great pride to see others enjoy something she had made. She would carry these skills with her to the later staged of her life.

She leaves to mourn her surviving children Des Kushniryk (Sherry), Don Kushniryk (Tracy), Alanna Kushniryk (Larry Schultz), grandchildren Ty DeRayos, who she called her tabby, (Marissa), Sereen McConnell (Travis), Aaron Kushniryk (Crystal), Kim Kushniryk (Justin), great grandchildren Isis, Gina, and Ace Kushniryk, sisters Francis McIvor (late Verl), Betty Hoersch (Kurt), brother Bob Jones (Sandra), as well as many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband Gaston Lepla, son Ed Kushniryk, brothers Alfred Jones, Tommy Jones, and sisters Kathy Catellier, Margorie Sharp (late Bill).

A celebration of life will be held Saturday January 11th, 2020 at the Army and Navy, 25 3rd Street, N.E. Portage La Prairie (upstairs) at 2:00 pm with a lunch. For those wishing, donations can be made to the Lung Association of Manitoba, 204-825 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB, R3A 1M5, or to a charity of your choice.
