When Portage Evangelical Church purchased the old Beaver Lumber building, he spent many hours, cleaning up, pulling nails, organinzing lumber and stripping and waxing floors. He enjoyed wood working, building many lawn swings, picnic tables, spoon racks and shuffle boards. Later on, scroll sawing became his hobby, clocks, pictures, plaques, and letters that grace the church walls.

Piet accepted the Lord as a young man, faithfully attending services in Winnipeg, Brandon and Portage la Prairie.  Portage Evangelical Church became his home after his marriage to Peggy.  He loved his church family where he was known as the “Candy Man”.

Piet loved camping and was looking forward to the annual Senior’s Campout at Spruce Woods Park. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Thanks to the doctor and staff at the Portage and Concordia Hospitals for their care and compassion.
