Marjorie Jean (Strong) Minton

On Thursday August 15th, 2019, Marjorie (Marj) Jean Minton, loving wife of William (Bill) Minton, passed away peacefully with her family by her side at the age of 73 at the Lions Prairie Manor in Portage La Prairie. Marj was born in Portage la Prairie on October 23, 1945, to Alice and Thomas Strong of Langruth. She was one of 6 children. On August 10th, 1965 Marj married Bill Minton. They first lived in Portage La Prairie where they had 2 sons, Kelly and Bruce. In 1971 they moved to the family farm near Amaranth Manitoba. It is here that Marj proudly raised her boys while also cooking for Bill and his brothers, who all farmed together. She also worked at the grocery store in Amaranth full time for many years. At the farm, Marj loved to care for her many beautiful flowerbeds and vegetable garden. Marj was involved in the community and with her neighbours. She was well known for her great cooking and baking. She had many great friends and always had an open door for coffee or tea when someone stopped by. Marj and Bill sold the farm and moved to Portage La Prairie in the summer of 2012. Marjorie is survived by her loving husband of 54 years Bill Minton, sons Kelly (Leah) of Portage La Prairie and Bruce (Derek) of Winnipeg and 4 grand children Ashley (Drew) of Portage La Prairie, Michelle (Tyler) of Brandon, Jesse of Portage La Prairie, Ben of Winnipeg, her sister Joan of McCreary, as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to thank the staff at Lions Prairie Manor for their care, love and support for Mom over the last two and a half years - they made it her home.
