Laurie Ward Obituary

Suddenly on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at the Health Sciences Centre, Winnipeg,  Laurie Ward passed away at the age of 61 years.

Laurie Lavern Ward was born on April 29, 1957 and passed away November 28, 2018.

Laurie took her elementary schooling in Portage la Prairie and her high school to grade 11 in Elm Creek. Years later she came back to Portage with her mother and completed her grade 12 at the Portage Collegiate .  She then moved back to Winnipeg and was employed as a sorter at the Winnipeg Post Office for several years.

She married Ken Ward and they were blessed with two girls.  In later years she worked at various jobs with the family in restaurant work.  Mainly her job was to help her daughters with her little grandchildren, her pride and joy.

As a young girl 10 years old during gospel meetings at the Portage Gospel Hall she accepted Christ as her Savior.  When she was older she was afraid that was too simple.  Almost four years ago she was very, very ill  and while recovering realized that Christ really had died for her and went on to prove her conviction, and spoke of it to everyone. Two hymns she spoke of often were “Was It For Me, For Me Alone” and “Amazing Grace”.

Laurie was predeceased by both sets of grandparents, May and Howard Nickels and Mary and Norman Dubois. Her father Roy Dubois, 1976, brother Norman, 2011, sister Elaine in infancy and niece Melissa Dubois.

Laurie is survived by her mother Mary Dubois, companion Gilbert Vinet, daughters Jurate Ward and Rikki-Lee Sawler (Paul), grandchildren:  Rodger Ward, Tres Ward (four great-grandchildren);, Dillion Sawler, Camilla Sawler, and Cody Sawler.  Siblings: Roy, Dawn, Verona, Rhona, Debbie, Bernie, William, Richard, Racheal, Rodger and Armand, plus numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in the Herman Prior Centre, 40 Royal Road North, Portage la Prairie with a reception to follow.  Interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery.
