Laurie Ferriss Donald, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, friend, rancher and farmer, made his journey home on Friday, February 22, 2019 at the age of 85 years. He passed away peacefully, at Portage General Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Laurie was born and raised at Treherne and moved with his family to Rossendale at an early age. He farmed with his brothers until the 1970’s when he moved to the south to continue farming and ranching on his own. He worked hard all his life to provide for his family and build his farm and home.
In 1956, he married his soulmate, Eunice Maloney and together they raised three sons. Through his tough exterior, he was a loving father who was very proud of his sons and their families. He passed on his love of working the land and farming and ranching. In his later years, gardening became his new passion. He cared for each plant and apple tree and weeds had no place in his garden. He shared this love with his grandchildren. Laurie enjoyed his many friends in the Rossendale district and his home was always open to his family and friends. He loved music, singing and playing, a gift from his Mother and Father and Johnny Cash was his lifelong favorite.
Laurie will be sadly missed by Eunice, his loving wife of 62 years, his sons, Brent(Kathy), Darren(Bonnie), Kent(Angela) and 9 loving grandchildren.
Laurie is also survived by his brother, Gordon and sister, Audrey Henitiuk, both of Edmonton, his brother Barrie(Vickie), and sister-in-law, Elaine Donald of Portage and brother-in-law, Bob Douglas and his nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Annie and James Donald, brothers, Walter, Geordie and Herbie, and sisters, Freda, Marilyn and Doreen, and in-laws Mel Burton, Dave Sauder, Mary Donald and Mike Henitiuk. He is also lovingly remembered by numerous members of the Maloney family.
Laurie's Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at the Rossendale Cemetery, Rossendale. Immediately following the cemetery service, luncheon will be served at the Rossendale Community Centre, Rossendale, MB.
