Joyce Vust

On August 20, 2018, at the age of 78  years, Joyce Vust entered  the splendor of heaven, ever to be with her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, about six months after being diagnosed with advanced cancer.  Joyce was born in Minnesota on June 28, 1940, the ninth child of Henry and Grace Vust.

After the family moved to the Portage district in 1947, Joyce completed elementary school and high school in and around Portage.  In 1958, she began nurses training at Grace Hospital, Winnipeg, graduating in the Class of ‘61B, and making friends with several classmates whose friendships she cherished until her passing.  She nursed at the Portage Hospital for four years; then she moved to Calgary, Alberta to continue working there, ending her official nursing career in 1994.  Later that year, she moved back to Portage to care for her sister Selma and later her brother Harry at home until each of them had to enter a care facility.

Until she became ill, Joyce had seemingly boundless energy.  She enjoyed providing child care, reading, music, traveling, sewing, crocheting, embroidery, knitting, cooking and especially baking.  As a faithful church member, she served her Lord in various capacities including Sunday School teacher, AWANA leader and Social Convener, most recently at the Bible Baptist Church.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Quesada, Debbie Janzen and many other caregivers at the Portage Hospital for the excellent care she received in her two short stays there.

Joyce is survived by 4 brothers: Alvin (Jenny), Merle, Roy (Darlene) all of Portage and Frank (Ruth) of Winnipeg; 3 sisters: Freda Moman, Lois McCormick (Jack), and Alice all of Portage, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

Joyce was predeceased  by her parents, two brothers, Harry and Gilbert, two sisters, Martha Hoyes and Selma Vust as well as two brothers-in-law, Keith Hoyes and Albert Moman and one sister-in-law, Marianne Vust.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, August 24, 2018 at the Bible Baptist Church with reception to follow in the lower church hall. A private family interment will precede the service.
