Joan Joanna (Nichols) Darichuk

Suddenly on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at the Portage and District General Hospital, Joan (Jo) Darichuk, beloved wife of Dave Darichuk and mother of Jeff and KIm passed away with her family at her side at the age of 64 years.

She was predeceased by her father Wallace Nichols, mother Rose Nichols, siblings Max , Rodney  and Carol (Ovide) and in-laws, Arthur Cote, Janet Nichols, Agnes Nichols and Gerry Blacjewski.

Jo is survived by her husband Dave, Son Jeffrey (Melissa), Daughter Kimberly (Darren) and her pride and joy, grandson Christian!

Also siblings Eddie, Violet , Bernice , Cliff (Mary), Mary-Rose (Lionel), Jim (Barb)  and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jo was born in Carman, MB on Aug, 12 1954 and lived on the family farm in Haywood, MB until they moved to Portage la Prairie.  She attended Portage Collegiate where she met Dave. After high school they both worked together at Mighty Mart Discount Center for a number of years. They were married in 1973.  Jo then worked at Gallagher Refrigeration before taking her career job at Manitoba Crop Insurance (MASC) where she worked for 32 years.

Joan had a great time raising the children and enjoyed the full house that went along with that when the neighbourhood kids were over. Jo loved camping with family and friends. She loved family vacations in the summers. In fall 2009, her and Dave travelled to New York City.  By then the home life was more appealing to her than travelling and she preferred to be at home. Yard work, gardening, home-making and spending time with family.  The last three years were the best of all for her with Grandson Christian. They became the best of friends!

A Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, May 10, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Herman Prior Centre with a reception to follow.
