George Joseph Flamand

George Joseph Flamand peacefully passed away at his home with his family by his side on November 3, 2018 at age of 80 years.

George was one of twelve children born on January 29, 1938, to the late Alexandre and Rose Flamand of St. Ambroise where he grew up and received his education.

In 1961, he married Marie Chartrand.   Together they served others in their community his entire life.

George was a man of many hats.  He was a trapper, hunter, and he was a cowboy who spent 20 years in the saddle, working for the P.F.RA. ranch.

George and Marie raised beef cattle together their whole lives on what is now the F5 ranch.

He was an amazing commercial fisherman having received the Water Stewardship Long Service Fisher award in 2007, for 54 dedicated years to the Manitoba commercial fishing industry.

George enjoyed welding and he was quite the inventor, he fixed his own equipment for many years.  He spent countless hours making hay in the community he loved.  He was a member of the St. Ambroise Catholic Church and was an Elder with the Manitoba Metis Federation.

He sure loved a good duck soup big tea and bannock.

George was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and Uncle. He was one darn good friend to anybody who needed one.

George will be dearly missed by his children, Danny, Charlene/Filles (Mark), Cindy (Leo Jr.) and Richard/Smiley, 12 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and 21 foster children. 

He leaves behind his only surviving brother; Marcel (Leona) and sister Emma.  Numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

George was predeceased by his loving wife Marie of 52 years and one great-grandchild.

Prayers will be held Saturday, November 10 at 10:30 a.m. in the St. Ambroise Catholic Church with Mass to follow at 11:00 a.m..  A reception will follow the interment at the St. Ambroise Community Centre
