Elaine Mary (Porter) Rutherford

Elaine Mary Rutherford , beloved wife of George Herbert (Rusty), passed away on Friday, August 24, 2018 at the Portage & District General Hospital.

Elaine was born in Portage la Prairie on May 30,1947, daughter of the late Jim, and May Porter.  She grew up in Portage and attended local schools.  After high school she took a secretarial course at Mrs. Yoda’s Portage Business College and worked at that career many years.

Elaine lived in several different locations in Canada, including Grand Rapids, Manitoba; High Level, Alberta; Prince George, B.C. and Comox on Vancouver Island.  It was at Comox that she met Rusty Rutherford and they were married there on September 14, 1985.

In 1990, Elaine and Rusty returned to Portage la Prairie to be closer to family.  The couple soon became entrenched in the community and could often be seen in their vintage costumes at various community events.  They also had interest in antiques and collectables and were vendors at all nearby shows.  They loved to travel and made several trips abroad.  Elaine was a life-time member of the Manitoba Genealogy Society and belong to several other genealogy clubs.  She was also a member of the Vintage Cruisers Car Club.  Elaine loved her garden and spent many happy hours tending her flower beds.

Elaine is survived by and will be deeply missed by her husband Rusty Rutherford, her brother Earl Porter and wife Terrie, and nephew and niece, Matthew and Cole Porter.  She will be missed by her many cousins and friends.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Thursday, September 6, 2018 at 2:00 p. m. in the Odd Fellows Hall, 151 Royal Road North Portage la Prairie.
